Graduates of Oxford Humanities, a banker, a high school teacher and the largest analyst Stuart Max Lawson never tire of surprising … Recently with the support of Sberbank (note, not Citibank or HSBC!) he released a photo album “Behind the Scenes” dedicated to the daily work of the Russian Perm ballet. Apparently, in the development of the ideas of the French impressionist Edgar Degas, the photographer artistically captured the rehearsals and warm-ups of dancers. The degree of artistry of the compositions will be easily appreciated by everyone who happened to be behind the scenes.
And anyone who knows Mr. Lawson in any way and has felt the charm of this person, will not be surprised with what enthusiasm he expressed himself in photography. We, too, were not surprised, but decided to ask the author the context of his love for Russian “backstage”.
EV: Mr. Lawson, could you tell me what your passion for the theatre is? I believe that there we can talk about the soul and aesthetic pleasure…
Stuart M. Lawson: I have been taking photos since I was ten. Previously I would develop and print at home, quite disruptive. Now the digital media makes the creative process so much easier. But at its core, is can; you capture the moment?
Over the past three years I have been able to practice my skills and this was been very rewarding. I have always been quite visual and I completely love being present to watch these extraordinary young people and to also see how their interact with their teachers . It is a rare privilege to be given access.
As for my business, on the one level it is totally separate, on the other, I am able to bring my business colleagues closer to this special world. The experience so far has been extremely positive and I have had nothing but enthusiastic feedback.
EV: How colleagues are looking for your passion to capture the ballet?
Stuart M. Lawson: Generally people in Russia have great respect for culture and my colleagues are understanding (and in some cases a little jealous). It’s been super that Sberbank agreed to sponsor the first book and this will be helpful for them with presents for the clients at new year, Perm
Ballet will be able to distribute others and of course, guess what all my friends and family are getting for their new year presents ?
EV: Do your passions find their origins or continuation in your family?
Stuart M. Lawson: Actually my ex wife is a fantastic photographer and my 20 year old son has inherited her abilities.
P.S. Everyone who loves beauty and wants to buy such a valuable art trophy, we recommend to contact the representative of the Perm ballet (yulakozlova@gmail.com) or publisher (nelly@maier-publishing.ru).
