On September, 20 a new tourism project “Great Volga way” was presented in the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation. The project brings together the historical and cultural monuments of different regions of the Volga federal district and aims to become a popular route among the Russian and foreign tourists, along with other popular Russian destinations.
When traveling on the new route, еру tourists will get a comprehensive idea of natural-geographical, historical, cultural and culinary diversity of the regions of the Volga district. The new route includes such cities as Nizhny Novgorod, Kirov, Kazan, Yoshkar-Ola, Saratov, Perm, Izhevsk, Samara, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Saransk and Cheboksary. Now, the project involves the 3-4 day trips by rail, bus or river transport.
As reported by the “Tatar-Inform” press agency, the tourists will be able to choose regions to visit. At both the district and the interregional level, it is planned to develop the sub-brands by different categories (e.g., environmental, event, gastronomic, halal tourism).
The region of the new route has enough resources in the terms of transport accessibility: the “Ural” and “Volga” federal highways, seven international airports, rail and water transport.
At the presentation the executive director of the Association of tour operators of Russia, Maya Lomidze, invited the project creators to discuss with regional authorities the question of maximal lowering of prices for the tours of the route.
The project creators expect that the participants of a press tour from Austria willl be the first tourists on the route in 2017. The journalists will visit the Penza region, Tatarstan, Chuvashia and the Republic of Mari El.
