On September 21, 2016 in the building of the Moscow Philharmonic a press conference with its general director Alexei Shalashov held. He introduced a new season ticket program of concert season 2016/2017 and talked about future plans for the development of the Philharmonic.
Moscow State Academic Philharmonic was created in 1922 on the initiative of the People’s Commissar of Education Anatoly Lunacharsky. From the first years the leading domestic and international musicians perform in the Moscow Philharmonic. Concert Hall named after P. I. Chaikovsky was opened on October 12, 1940. In 2008, in the same building Chamber Hall was opened, and in 2014 a new playground Philharmonic-2 opened in a concert hall building, which was built for the Moscow Olympics in 1980. Also, Moscow Philharmonic Society carries out its activities in the halls of the Moscow Conservatory, the Polytechnical Museum, Concert Hall of the Russian Academy by Gnessin, Concert Hall of the Museum of music by Glinka, Central House of Artists and the Concert Hall “Orchestrion.”
In the new season will be more than 200 cycles of season tickets, in which concert programs leading orchestras, Russian soloists and foreign stars will be attended. On September 10 at the Concert Hall of the Moscow Philharmonic named after Tchaikovsky a concert of Yuri Bashmet and the chamber orchestra “Soloists of Moscow” was – the first concert of the season 2016/2017.
Philharmonic is actively developing – up to the end of December the second hall of will be open at the Philharmonic-2 and special virtual hall for viewing broadcasts from all around the world. The site of the Moscow Philharmonic continues online broadcasts, which allows listeners anywhere in the world to see and hear all the concerts held in the Concert Hall named after Chaikovsky. Before the new year is scheduled to begin broadcasting from the hall the Philharmonic-2 named after Sergei Rachmaninoff.
In addition to the broadcasts of concerts planned music films, conducting educational activities, show of the records best world music performances. The new concert season is planned to expand programs for children – more than 60 season tickets. These are educational projects designed for a variety of age groups, enabling the systematic study of music; and “Fairy Tales with the orchestra” – literary projects; and educational programs for the whole family.
As Alexei Shalashov said at a press conference “The task of the Philharmonic, the task of all of us – it is to get the taste of music higher and higher.”
In the new season, the following significant events take place in the halls of the Philharmonic:
1. V International Festival of Contemporary Music “Other space”
The festival will take place from 2 to 6 November at the Philharmonic building on Tverskaya Street and will end by the unique performance. Russian premiere of the opera-oratorio “El Niño” J. Adams, conductor Vladimir Jurowski. Performers are Russian State Symphony Orchestra named after E. F. Svetlanov, State Academic Choir of Russia named after A. A. Yurlov, Estonian National Male Choir.
2. Season ticket “Top of Excellence. Baroque”
Performances will be by the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and the “Mateus” ensemble under the direction of Jean-Christophe Spinosi. On December 7 will perform “Bach Ensemble” – in their performance sounds “Christmas Oratorio.”
3. Season ticket “Operatic masterpieces”
The first performance of Handel’s opera “Theseus” will be in Russia.
4. Season ticket “Opera!”
As part of season ticket will be submitted works that are not in the repertoire of opera houses in the capital. It is “Faust” by Gounod (under the direction of V. Fedoseyev) and “Ariadne auf Naxos” by R. Strauss (under the direction of V. Yurovsky).
5. Festival of New Year holidays “Christmas Tree”
The festival will be held for children from December 30 to January 8 for the second year . The program will include opera and ballet, concerts and plays, cartoons, as well as New Year circus show.
