27 September-2 October 2016 the Bolshoi theatre in Moscow is hosting the 20th international competition of young singers of Italian Opera “Competizione Dell’opera”. 12 participants – two from Georgia, one from Germany, South Korea and the United States, and seven from Russia куфсрув the final of the competition.
In 2016, the competition is celebrating its 20th anniversary – for the first time it was held in Hamburg in 1996. Curator of the contest Hans-Joachim Fry started it and heads it to this day. Since 2001, the contest was held in Dresden, and in 2011 it was the first time traveled outside of Germany and then was carried out in Russia at the Bolshoi theatre. Its special feature is that the participants perform the Italian operatic repertoire only.
The “Competizione Dell’opera” focuses on supporting young talents and establishing new contacts for its members on the international Opera stage. The winners will receive: 1st prize € 8’000, 2nd prize € 5’000, 3rd prize € 4’000, a special prize for young talent will give € 5’000. Due to the presence of the major professionals of the Opera world in the jury, the participants of the contest submit proposals to participate in Opera productions, concerts and engagements in famous Opera houses. This year, the jury of 30 people is headed by Tugan Sokhiev, music Director of the Bolshoi theatre.
In response to the question of “E Vesti”, which kind of vocal is in demand in the world now, Kurt Rydl – a soloist of the Vienna state Opera and member of the jury of the competition in 2016, shared that in many Opera theaters around the world, led by managers, small, comfortable voices are prefered, but at the same time everyone dreams of big voices and remembers those days when mainly big voices were on stage.
