Starting from July 18, 2016, State Litterary Museum will change the name to “State Museum of the history of the Russian literature after V. I. Dahl”.
Vladimir Ivanovich Dahl (1801-1872) – the great Russian philologist, ethnographer, writer and a military doctor. He was a contemporary and friend of Alexander Pushkin. In the literary circle he was also known under the pseudonym meaning place of birth – a Cossack Lugansky. The author of “Explanatory dictionary of the live great Russian language”, he gathered Russian folk songs and Proverbs. Dahl was supporter of the national Russian language, a nationalist in culture. He moved from Lutheranism to Orthodoxy.
On the occasion of the renaming of State Litterary museum, in TASS was held the conference, which was attended by the Director of the State literary Museum Dmitry Bak, Director of the State Museum of L. N. Tolstoy Sergey Archangels, the General Director of the partnership “Native word” and the head of the program “XXI century Dictionaries” Konstantin Derevyanko, rector of the State Institute of Russian language named after A. S. Pushkin Margarita Rusetskaya and the President of the Russian state library Victor Fedorov.
Far-reaching innovations
The President of the Russian State Library V. Fedorov noted, referring to the involvement of other museums and rich historical background of the company: “the project has three parents and one grandfather – Nikolay Rumyantsev. His private Museum was the source of a large number of cultural institutions. On its basis the Russian state library, the Historical Museum and the Pushkin Museum were founded”.
Dmitry Bak said that the plans of the Museum contain not renaming only, but it will be a “Museum facing beyond the Museum activities.” In addition to Museum and scientific work, the Museum will arrange 5-7 separate exhibitions of leaders of Russian and Soviet literature, including A. Vertinsky, O. Mandelstam and A. Lunacharsky.
A lot of cooperation projects with other museums and educational institutions in Russia and in the world are scheduled. In 2018 in Sorrento will host an exhibition of M. Gorky. The Russian exhibitions will become “mobile”: once formed, they will continue the program in other places.
The current idea for renaming and development of the Museum played a role as the traditional Russian understanding of Museum experiences (“the spirit of Russian museums”, according to D. Tank), and the original idea of V. D. Bonch-Bruevich, who organized the current Helicase in 1934.
In addition, it is planned to occupy the historic building on Zubovsky Bulvar, 15, the importance of which for history underlined historian C. Schmidt. He suggested a similar idea.
Rename received full approval and support
Margarita Rusetskaya drew attention to the fact that the rebranding of the State Litterary museum will serve for the main task for Russia, which is now “the preservation of tradition reading.” The Institute she heads conducts “lessons in museums” and “literary salon” in Russia and abroad for this purpose. Helicase is also a platform for communication between readers writers.
Fedorov hopes to further disclose the holdings of literary manuscripts, which are rich in State Library (it possess M. A. Bulgakov, the brothers Aksakov, V. Rasputin, and many others).
With enthusiasm was seen getting the name of Vladimir Dahl, whose contribution to Russian literature and culture “is still underestimated,” – said Fedorov.
The literary critic A. Arkhangelsky sent to the press conference through a video message, where he drew attention to the fact that “it was Dahl only who could join the live stream of the Russian language with a live stream of Russian literature”.
