Tourist activity has increased its contribution to the Russian economy more than twice. According to the Minister of culture of Russia Vladimir Medinsky, at the end of 2016 it amounted to 3.4% (it was 1.5% in 2015). At the same time, the formula for calculating the share of industry in gross domestic product (GDP) changed. Today it is calculated on the basis of European system of assessment. The minimum plan of the Ministry in the near future is to increase share of tourism to a minimum of 10% as in average.
Currently, from 11 to 13 March in Moscow is held one of the most representative exhibitions of tourism “ITM-2017”. Travel charms show 12 countries and most regions of Russia.
By the way, apparently tired of foreign adventures, the Russians are 10% more likely to travel around the country. The most popular sights of Russia are Saint-Petersburg, Moscow, Tatarstan, the Altay and Krasnodar.
Among the countries where our citizens prefer to travel are Cyprus (+40% to 2015), China (+30%) and Greece (+20%).
Russia is becoming more attractive to the East. The growth of inbound tourism in 2016 (+7%) occurred primarily because of Iran (+72%), China, Korea and India (+20%).
