Two exhibitions were opened in the Tretyakov gallery on 01 November 2016. The first one is dedicated to a triptych by M. Scotti (1851), which raises in consciousness K. Minin and Prince D. Pozharsky struggle for the liberation of the Fatherland, the second represents theatrical of Art Nouveau painter L. Bakst, former husband of daughter of P. M. Tretyakov, founder of the gallery.
The Exhibition “Mikhail Scotti. Triptych. 1612-1613” workes from November 01, 2016 till January 25, 2017 at hall No. 11. It introduces to the visitor a new Museum’s purchase called “the Feat of Ivan Susanin” by M. Scotti. The painting was received by the Tretyakov gallery with the support of philanthropist Otar Margania. Curator – PhD. L. Markina.
Originally this painting was a triptych together with paintings “Minin and Pozharsky” and “Archimandrite Dionisy Sobinovsky presents a Patriotic letter to the soldier”. In Soviet times, the triptych was pulled for museums and private owners, and for the first time in a century it is combined again according to the initial plan.
Scotti Michel Angelo Pietro (1814-1861) – Russian painter of Italian origin, an auditor student at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, teacher of painting, Professor and inspector of classes at the Moscow School of painting, sculpture and architecture. In 1856 he left Russia, was buried in Paris. Among paintings “At the carnival of Venice”, “Five brothers Benoit” etc.
Customer of the paintings was Slavophile A. I. Lobkov, Treasurer of the Moscow school of painting and sculpture. Keeping in mind his views, the reason for choosing the actors of the composition can be explained. Ivan Susanin, who confused the poles in Russian forests in early 17 century, the organizers of the militia of K. Minin and D. Pozharsky – these are the symbols of people’s love and devotion to the king, and the Abbot of the Trinity monastery Dionysius Sobinovsky provided inspiration of resistance.
In addition to the triptych, the exhibition presents preparatory drawings for these paintings.
The exhibition is timed to 04 November, the anniversary of the liberation of the country in Troubled times. After the exhibition in Tretyakov gallery the picture will go on the field with the exploits of our ancestors: in Nizhny Novgorod and later in Sergiev Posad.
The exhibition “L. S. Bakst and the tagg family” works from November 01, 2016 to January 29, 2017 in the hall №45. It is composed of a portrait of L. Gritsenko (Tretyakova) painted by L. S. Bakst, written in love, as well as photographs and documents related to their life. The archive of L. S. Bakst was transferred to the Tretyakov gallery by the children of L. Gritsenko: A. Bakst and M. Gritsenko. Curator – E. Terkel.
Leo Bakst (real name Leib Chaim Rosenberg, 1866-1924) is Russia’s theatrical artist, Illustrator, graphic artist and painter. A graduate of the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, one of the founders of the Association “World of art” and the leading artist of “Russian seasons” by Sergei Diaghilev. Among his paintings there are portraits of the poets A. Belyi and Zinaida Gippius, “Portrait of Sergei Diaghilev with the nanny”, “Dinner”.
This year 150 years since the birth of the artist is celebrated, and this exhibition, which occupies about a quarter of V. Serov hall, is a modest area devoted to this family.
Both exhibitions are small, cozy, combined with the main exposure. They acquaint visitors with the Museum archives. The program, combining both exhibitions is called “the Tretyakov gallery opens its reservists”.
