Vehicle market of Rostov-on-don is in recession

Sales of new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles in Russia, according to the Association of European Businesses, suffered significant decline during the first quarter of 2015, decreased by 42.5% compared to the same period of 2014. In a number of regions recorded rate of car market decline even exceeds the national average. In the South of Russia the decline in sales below market marked in Rostov-on-Don.

Despite the fact that number of motor vehicles points of sale in Rostov-on-Don increased by more than 60% only in the period of 2010-2013, revenue continues a declining trend since 2011. Analytical center “Alfa insurance” has registered 47% decline in new car sales in January-March 2015 compared to the same period of 2014 (from 15.1 to 7.9 thousand cars accordingly).

Sales proceeds of motor vehicles trading in the Rostov region in General decreased by 45% in the first half 2015 compared to the same period of 2014 and amounted to 6177 million rubles. Such income items as “Maintenance and repair of motor vehicles” and “Trading of automobile components and accessories” in January-June 2015 had also a significant decline of yield to 5511 million rubles (-38%) and 5517 million rubles (-34%), respectively, compared to January-June 2014.

The total number of motor vehicles points of sale in Rostov-on-Don and Rostov region is 253 points, including wholesale, retail and trading of vehicles through agents. The number of official dealerships in Rostov-on-Don is 103, the leaders among them are representatives of such brands as Lada, Lifan and Renault with 6 point of sale each and Hyundai and SsangYong with 5 points of sale (Table 1).
